Pressure Vessel Welding Engineer in Las Vegas, NV

National Security Technologies, LLC (NSTec), a prime contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy---s National Nuclear Security Administration, has an immediate opening for a Pressure Vessel/Welding Engineer. Work location is in Las Vegas, NV. U.S. CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED. This is a multi-functional engineering position in the disciplines of welding and pressure safety engineering. The Pressure Safety Engineer involves management and oversight of the National Security Technologies, LLC (NSTec) Pressure Safety Program which includes development and revision of company-level directives, procedures and processes for pressure vessels, pressure systems, and relief valves. Responsible for oversight of field activities to ensure conformance to the appropriate American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, National Board of Inspectors Codes (NBIC), American National Standard Institute (ANSI) and company implementing documents and customer requirements. Directs and oversees pressure safety inspection activities of boilers, pressure vessels and systems, relief valves and quality control inspection activities. Provides design and detail engineering, calculations, specifications, system testing, and quality control inspection requirements of pressure vessels, systems and piping components. Provides subject matter expertise of pressure vessels and systems throughout the construction, startup and turnover phases of projects. The responsibilities as the Welding Engineer involve management and oversight of the NSTec Welding and Nondestructive Examination (NDE) Program which includes development and revision of company-level directives, procedures and processes. Responsible for oversight of field activities to ensure conformance to the appropriate American Welding Society (AWS), ASME, and American Society of Testing Material (ASTM) codes and standards, company implementing documents and customer requirements. Directs and oversees welding and quality control welding inspection activities. Provides design and detail engineering, calculations, specifications, NDE, and quality control inspection requirements. Provides subject matter expertise of welding activities throughout the construction, startup and turnover phases of projects. Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles. Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures, discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiate hypotheses. Prepares technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations. Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post-heating requirements. Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes. Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements. Contacts personnel of other agencies or Department of Energy (DOE) sites, engineering personnel, or clients to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters. May perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials. Both functions provide technical evaluations of vendor proposals, recommends successful proposers, and prepares purchase requirements and packages. They will serve as a Subcontract Technical Representative overseeing vendor---s and supplier---s workmanship, installation, design, material and equipment for compliance with national codes and standards and NSTec requirements. They will identify nonconforming items, initiate nonconformance reports, recommend dispositions and corrective actions, and monitor nonconforming item status through the closure of corrective action. The position requires coordination of assessments (independent and management) or performance of same (as team member or team leader) to evaluate the status of the associated programs. Participate in and embrace NSTec safety initiatives. Frequent travel to Nevada National Security Site. Performs related work as assigned by the manager. Successful candidate should possess a Bachelor---s degree in welding, mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering discipline or field related to the position, or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 10 years' related professional experience in pressure safety systems. Metallurgical background is preferred. Proficient in the comprehension and application of international codes, particularly the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, NBIC, ANSI, AWS and ASTM codes. Must be able to apply ASME Section VIII, Division 1, 2, and 3 design concepts. Knowledge of construction engineering relating to pressure vessels and systems and piping components, welding, and construction quality control activities. Hands on welding experience in a fabrication environment preferred. Experience in the nuclear industry is desired. Experience in a custom steel metal fabrication and piping environment and knowledge of fabricating, welding and finishing is desired. Effective computer skills using Microsoft Office software and commercial engineering software application---s is required. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and customers. Must have experience working effectively in a team environment. Self motivation and organization skills are necessary. Must possess an appropriate, valid driver's license.
