This first was a Prototype LP 500 Countach, styled by Marcello Gandini from Bertone design studio (same designer / studio that designed the Lamborghini Miura). The first production Countach wasn't available until the 1974 model year. This first edition LP 400 Countach design was visually very true to the original prototype design from Bertone. In 1978, the second evolution of the design was introduced, the Countach LP 400 "S". The LP 400S received some visual/mechanical features, to name a few; wheel arch extensions/panel flares, optional rear wing spoiler, revised front bumper area, and wider wheels. Total production numbers for the LP 400S (series I, II, and II) is only 237 examples. The Countach you are looking at is a series II example. The series II retained the low body styling of the series I, yet received a revised style of wheels and some other small features. The series II cars also retained the desirable factory "lowbody" chassis suspension setup of the original design. Only 105 of these series II where produced. The Countach was produced in various forms from 1974 to 1990, with roughly 2,050 total produced.PERFORMANCE: Legendary Lamborghini V-12 power. The 3,929 cc DOHC V-12 develops a factory claimed 355 bhp at 7500 rpm. The motor in this car starts easily and runs great. The 5-speed manual transmission shift well and the clutch feels good. The motor in this car has received some performance/reliability upgrades with a modern style electric fuel injection system, and electric ignition. The EFI fuel system and electronic ignition gives the motor better response and is more reliable performance. The original factory Weber carburetion/filter fuel system and factory distributor can be re-installed to return the motor to it's factory setup. EXTERIOR: The paint, the paint color and the body is in great condition. Body is straight with good panel fit. The vehicle received a complete repainted in the early 1990s in a beautiful rich Black Cherry Pearl. The paint retains a great finish, depth and luster for it's age. Some minor imperfection, from road use and age. The original color was a standard Lamborghini red. All of the glass is in great condition. Wheels are in good condition. Tires have a lot of tread, but the tires are older. INTERIOR: A very clean and nice interior. Nice clean gauges, working gauges. For the vehicles age, the interior instrument panel and other original factory parts are in great condition. The A/C is complete, yet at this time the system needs charging or servicing. The interior was originally a white leather with black dash. Reconditioned in the early 1990's with a nice blend of custom materials and original styling. Still show well today. Quality of the interior craftsman is very good. OTHER INFO:This car was imported into the US, Los Angeles, in 1985. After being imported into the US the car spent time in CA and CO. In 1992 the car was purchased by the current owner. The car has been loved and cared for by the same owner for the past 22 years. A fair amount of service/parts receipts along with import DOT papers, all will come with the car. The original owner manual and a factory parts catalog come with the car.
